AES succesfully supplied four Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI-LED) units at Valencia Airport (Spain). Along with the PAPI systems, two associated Constant Current Regulators (CCRs) were also delivered and integrated into the airfield lighting infraestructure.
This project represents a major milestone not only for AES, but also for the European aviation sector, as it marks the first installation of a redundant PAPI at a civil airport in Europe.
What is a Redundat PAPI?
One of the main concerns for airport technical and maintenance teams is the risk of a power outage. Moderns airfields rely heavily on visual lights and airfield ground lighting systems that require a continuous and reliable electrical supply to ensure flight safety.
A redundant PAPI system is specifically designed to address this risk. The AES PAPI-LED, features a dual power supply architecture, allowing the system to automatically switch to a secondary porwer source in the event of a failure in the primary supply.
Thanks to this intelligent design, the PAPI remains fully operational even during unforeseen power disruptions, guaranteeing uninterrupted visual guidance for approaching aircraft and significantly enhancing operational safety.
Installation of AES PAPI-LED at Valencia Airport
Valencia Airport is one of Spain’s most important civil airports. According to officil data published by Gaceta del Turismo, the airport recorded over 11 million passengers by November 2025, surpassing the total figures from 2024.
To support its continuous growth and maintain the highest safety standards, the airport trusted AES Airport Solutions and its innovative airfield lightinh technologies to renew its PAPI systems.
The PAPI-LED systems were installed alongside the runway, and the final results can be seen in the images below, showcasing a clean installation and optimal visibility:

Superior Optical Performance with Airsafe PAPI-LED
Beyond redundancy, the Airsafe PAPI-LED stands out for its advanced optical system design. The red-to-white light transition is extremely sharp and precise, providing pilots with clear and reliable visual cues during final approach.
This outstanding optical performance was demonstrated live during Interairport 2025, where the AES team showcased and validated the clarity and accuracy of the transition line under real conditions.

A milestone for AES Airport Solutions
The AES team is proud to have delivered this pioneering project at Valencia Airport. This installation reinforces our commitment to innovation, safety, and reliability in airport lighting systems.
We look forward to sharing many more PAPI-LED installations across Europe and beyond in 2026, continuing to support airports with advanced, future-proof airfield lighting solutions.
