Solar Lighting
Solar-powered airfield ground lighting for runways, taxiways, helipads, and temporary operations. The AES solar AGL range delivers full ICAO and FAA compliant performance without any connection to the electrical grid. Designed for rapid deployment, off-grid locations, and scenarios where traditional cabled infrastructure is not available or not practical, these portable LED lights are built for both civil and military airfield applications.

Why Solar Airfield Lights?
Not every airfield has access to a reliable power grid, and not every lighting requirement is permanent. Solar airfield lights solve both of these challenges by combining high efficiency LED technology with integrated solar charging and lithium battery storage, delivering autonomous operation for extended periods without external power.
The AES solar AGL range covers omni-directional and uni/bi-directional configurations in all standard aviation colours (white, yellow, green, red, blue, and combined options such as white/yellow, green/red). This allows a single product family to cover runway edge, runway end, threshold, taxiway edge, and helipad (TLOF and FATO) applications.
Key Features
All units in the range share a set of core characteristics. LED source life exceeds 100,000 hours. Battery autonomy reaches over 30 hours in unidirectional mode on a single charge. The solar panels are integrated directly into the light body, keeping the unit compact and reducing the risk of Foreign Object Debris (FOD) on operational surfaces. Every fitting carries IP66 ingress protection and is rated for wind resistance up to 240 km/h and operating temperatures from -40°C to +55°C.
An optional wireless remote control system allows operators to manage multiple lights from a single controller at distances of up to 5 km, with support for five independent light groups, three-level dimming, and switching between steady and flashing modes. For military and specialised operations, an NVG (Night Vision Goggle) compatible mode with infrared lighting is also available.
Typical Applications
Solar airfield lights are used across a wide range of scenarios: permanent installations at remote or rural airfields, temporary runway closures and displaced thresholds, helipad lighting at hospitals and offshore platforms, military airfields requiring rapid deployment and redeployment, emergency response and humanitarian operations, and flight training schools looking for flexible and cost-effective lighting solutions.
Accessories
The range is supported by a charger storage box (AES-CSB) that charges up to six units simultaneously and doubles as a rugged transport case, and a wireless remote controller (AES-RC) with full dimming and group control capabilities. Optional frangible mounting supports and AC/DC charging ports are also available.
Compliance
All solar airfield lights in the AES range are designed and tested in compliance with ICAO Annex 14 (Vol. I and Vol. II), FAA AC 150/5345-46F, IEC TS 61827, and Part 139 (Aerodromes) Manual of Standards.
